Abstract:

This course aims to provide the attendee with a deep technical understanding of non-video features supported by HDMI (CEC, ARC, HEC) and how, along with HDBaseT extension, they may be utilized in a modern residential installation and Home Theatre system.

Course agenda:

Section 1: Short introduction to HDMI signalling (up to version 2.0). A short summary of HDMI signalling (up to version 2.0) and the purpose for the 19 wires inside the HDMI cable.

Section 2: CEC - Consumer Electronic Control. Deep dive into HDMI CEC technology, its features and how it works. A look at the various versions of the technology by different manufacturers. Reasons why CEC is an under-utilized feature that can complement any residential AV Control System.

Section 3: ARC - Audio Return channel. Deep dive HDMI ARC technology and how it works. The importance of any audio return in a Home Theatre installation, especially with the rise of media streaming services. Short introduction to enhanced-ARC (eARC), released in HDMI 2.1 specification.

Section 4: HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC / HEAC). Introduction to HEC/HEAC and how it works. Reasons why this feature is not widely supported by most manufacturers today.

Section 5: HDBaseT extension of HDMI, ARC and ethernet. A look at the benefits of utilising HDBaseT in a modern residential installation and how to make the most of those non-video feature.

Section 5: Pulse-Eight solutions. Introduction to Pulse-Eight products – including  matrix kits, extenders and splitters solutions supporting HDMI video extension, along with CEC, ARC and Ethernet.
